Dangote Refinery Imports First UAE Crude Cargoes

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has successfully imported two cargoes of crude oil from the UAE, marking its first procurement of Middle Eastern crude. This strategic decision comes as the refinery seeks to expand its feedstock sources due to ongoing domestic supply constraints.

According to S&P Global Commodity Insights, these cargoes will provide the refinery with a source of 700,000 barrels per day. The purchase follows the resumption of oil exports from the Middle East to the United States and an interim peace agreement with Iran, which has restored confidence in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The refinery, primarily designed to process Nigeria's light sweet crude, is increasingly diversifying its crude slate. David Bird, the Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Refinery, previously disclosed that supply constraints compelled the company to seek additional crude sources outside Nigeria.

The refinery plans to double its processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by the end of 2028, enabling it to process 80% of Nigeria's recent crude oil production.
