ADC Critiques Tinubu's State Police Bill as Ineffective

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's state police bill, stating that it is not a solution to Nigeria's escalating insecurity. In a statement released on Friday by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the push for state police as a politically motivated response to the country's deteriorating security situation.

They emphasized that while state police is a necessary component of Nigeria's long-term constitutional reform, it cannot succeed without the establishment of institutions prepared to safeguard its effectiveness. The ADC warned against treating the legislation as a quick fix, insisting that comprehensive police reform, independent oversight, and judicial autonomy are essential.

They highlighted that the current legislative rush lacks broad consultation and fails to address the fundamental issues of security in Nigeria. The ADC believes that genuine reform should be carefully designed and not merely a political theater aimed at creating an impression of action in response to the security crisis.
