Dan’iya Challenges Sokoto Government on Water Shortages

Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the Sokoto State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, has raised concerns regarding the persistent shortage of potable water in Sokoto metropolis and other areas, despite the state government’s claims of significant investments to address the issue. In a statement from his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’iya highlighted that residents are forced to purchase water for essential needs, three years into Governor Ahmed Aliyu's administration.

He pointed out that the 2026 Citizens Budget allocated N25 billion for the rehabilitation of Sokoto Township Water Works and N5 billion for solar-powered energy installations at pumping stations. However, the Q1 2026 Budget Implementation Report indicated only N64.09 million was utilized from the N3.106 billion budget for the Ministry of Water Resources.

Dan’iya questioned the government's accountability for the funds and the status of various water projects, including a contract for 10,000 solar panels intended to alleviate the water crisis. He emphasized that citizens should not have to rely on water vendors while the government announces projects.
