ADC Candidate Critiques Sokoto's Civil Service Policies

Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, the ADC governorship candidate in Sokoto State, has urged the state government to reassess its policy regarding post-retirement appointments and extensions for retired civil servants. In a statement released on Wednesday by his media aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’iya argued that retaining retired officials in active roles weakens the civil service and restricts career advancement for younger employees.

He noted that this policy impacts various public service levels, including teachers, headmasters, principals, and Permanent Secretaries. Dan’iya alleged that some retired officials are allowed to remain in their positions beyond the statutory retirement age instead of being contracted for specific tasks.

He expressed concern that the civil service's integrity is compromised when unqualified individuals are appointed to critical roles. Dan’iya emphasized that his administration would prioritize merit-based appointments and proper succession planning if elected, stating that a dysfunctional civil service could hinder the government's ability to provide essential services.
