Obidient Connect Aims for Election Transparency Amid Concerns

The pro-All Progressives Congress group, Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), has issued a warning regarding the Obidient Connect platform, which is associated with the Nigeria Democratic Congress and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi. This platform, developed under the leadership of Professor Pat Utomi and the Big Tent Coalition, aims to provide independent monitoring of polling unit results for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

RHGN's Deputy National Leader for the South-East, Mazi Franklin Ngoforo, has raised alarms about the potential creation of "rival electoral authorities," referencing the Electoral Act 2026, specifically Section 60(3), which mandates the electronic transmission of results by presiding officers. Obidient Connect does not seek to replace the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) but instead aims to enhance transparency by allowing trained citizen observers to capture and verify results in real-time.

This initiative is positioned as a means to ensure that the results announced by INEC align with those recorded at polling units.
