Datti Baba-Ahmed Leaves Labour Party for People's Redemption Party

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as the vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party alongside presidential candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 general elections, announced his resignation from the Labour Party on Tuesday. He disclosed his intention to join the People's Redemption Party (PRP) during an appearance on Channel Television's "Politics Today" program.

Baba-Ahmed cited internal disagreements and a perception that the Labour Party had shifted its focus towards undermining opposition parties rather than addressing critical issues such as insecurity and economic challenges. He stated that the Labour Party no longer aligned with his ideals, prompting his departure effective at midnight.

Baba-Ahmed expressed his commitment to the PRP, which he described as a party with a 75-year history that aims to produce genuine candidates, particularly from the southern region, ahead of the 2027 elections. He did not rule out his own presidential ambitions but emphasized his satisfaction with his previous achievements, including serving as a member of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
