Nigerian Rice Prices Drop N15,000 from January to September

Between January and September 2026, rice prices across major categories in Nigeria fell sharply. The price of a 50kg bag of imported long-grain rice decreased from N70,000 in January to N55,000 by September, marking a decline of N15,000 or 21.4%.

Nigerian manufactured rice also saw a reduction, dropping from N60,000 to N53,000, while imported short-grain rice fell from N60,000 to N51,000. Smaller bag sizes followed a similar trend, with a 25kg bag of Nigerian manufactured rice decreasing from N30,000 to N26,500, and imported long-grain rice dropping from N35,000 to N27,500.

The retail market reflected these changes, with a 4.15kg measure of imported rice falling from N7,000 to N4,600. The pace of price decline slowed in September, with Nigerian manufactured rice prices remaining stable.

Overall, the data indicates a significant reduction in rice prices over the nine-month period.
