Eight Dead, 26 Rescued in Lagos Building Collapse

On Thursday, a three-storey shop complex in Alakija, Lagos State, collapsed, resulting in the confirmed deaths of eight individuals, including an infant girl. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that 26 victims were rescued from the rubble.

Dr. Olufemi Ok Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, provided updates on the situation, indicating that multi-agency rescue operations were initiated immediately after the incident was reported.

The rescue efforts involved various stakeholders, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and CRCC Construction Company. Two victims were initially rescued alive, while the bodies of two deceased adult males were recovered.

As of 4:20 PM on the day of the incident, the casualty figures had risen to eight fatalities and 26 rescues. The ongoing rescue operations aim to locate any remaining individuals trapped beneath the debris, with heavy-duty equipment deployed to facilitate access to affected areas.
