Eight Dead in Lagos Building Collapse; 26 Rescued Alive

On Thursday, a three-storey building collapsed in the Alakija area of Lagos State, resulting in at least eight fatalities, including a baby girl. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the latest casualty figures in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr.

Olufemi Ok Osanyintolu. The incident occurred at approximately 11:37 AM on Ojo Road, near the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

A large-scale emergency response was initiated, involving multiple agencies. As of 4:20 PM, 26 individuals had been rescued alive, while search and rescue operations continued.

Dr. Osanyintolu disclosed that two victims were initially rescued alive during the emergency response efforts.

The deceased, an adult male, was recovered during the early stages of the operation. Reports indicated that additional individuals, including the shop owner, were trapped beneath the debris.

Heavy-duty equipment was deployed to support the rescue efforts, and the public was advised to stay away from the area to allow unrestricted access for emergency responders.
