Niger Delta Agitators Urge Tinubu to Decentralize Contracts

Former Niger Delta agitators, represented by the Niger Delta Stakeholders Forum (NDSF), have called on President Bola Tinubu to decentralize the pipeline surveillance contract. They argue that the current plan to award the contract to specific individuals undermines the interests of the entire Niger Delta region.

The group, which includes notable figures such as General Shoot Sight and Gen Boi Loaf, expressed their concerns during a meeting at the Okochiri Kingdom. They highlighted that the arrangement is deceitful and does not reflect the qualifications of different state leaders.

The NDSF emphasized the need for a review of the contract before the 2027 elections, advocating for a structure that provides pipeline security across all nine Niger Delta states. The Secretary General of NDSF, Theophilus Alay, reiterated the importance of ensuring peace and stability in the region, while also calling for immediate job opportunities for the youth.

They believe that decentralizing the contract will foster greater support from former agitators and stakeholders in the region.
