Niger Delta Group Urges Tinubu to Decentralize Contracts

The Niger Delta Stakeholders Forum (NDSF) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to decentralize pipeline surveillance contracts across various states in the Niger Delta region. This appeal, made during a meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, emphasizes the need for local participation and equitable opportunities for stakeholders in the region.

Dr. Tari Theophilus, who signed the statement, highlighted that the current centralized approach threatens to incite protests and destabilize the region's economy.

Dr. Deni Burutu Otuaro, the Amnesty Programme Coordinator, expressed regret over the potential for unrest and called for urgent reforms in pipeline surveillance.

The forum condemned the actions of Tantita Security Services and urged for the immediate separation of their operations from the Amnesty Office. They warned against the misuse of the Amnesty Programme for narrow interests, which could jeopardize peace and stability in the Niger Delta.

The NDSF insists that full decentralization of surveillance contracts is non-negotiable for the benefit of the entire community.
