Defence Minister Calls for Collective National Security Approach

At a strategic conference in Abuja, Defence Minister General Musa called for a whole-of-society approach to national security, stressing that contemporary security challenges cannot be addressed through military operations alone. He noted that threats such as terrorism, banditry, and cybercrime are increasingly complex and require collective national action.

General Musa highlighted the need for citizen participation and intelligence sharing as critical components of national security. He advocated for a modern security ecosystem founded on effective governance, leadership coordination, and sustained investment in indigenous defense innovation.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships to strengthen intelligence gathering and protect critical infrastructure. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, supported this approach, calling for comprehensive community-focused strategies to address insecurity.

Senator Osita Izunaso also stressed that military action alone cannot guarantee lasting peace, advocating for broader measures to tackle poverty and unemployment. General Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to protect the nation and maintain security.
