Nigeria's Defence Minister Calls for Global Security Partnership

General Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence of Nigeria, stated that terrorism, banditry, and emerging security threats have national impacts, regional consequences, and global implications. He made these remarks during a high-level discussion at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, attended by diplomats and representatives from the United Nations, African Union, and ECOWAS.

Musa called for a global partnership to tackle Nigeria's evolving security challenges and emphasized the importance of a whole-of-society approach. He outlined measures under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership, including recruiting 22,000 personnel into the Armed Forces, reorganizing the Nigerian Army, establishing state police, and implementing a unified intelligence program.

Additionally, he highlighted efforts to boost domestic defense production through the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria and the integration of advanced technology for surveillance and IED detection.
