Delta Police Rescue Trafficking Victim from Côte d’Ivoire

The Delta State Police, through the Effurun Area Command, rescued a 25-year-old woman who was trafficked to Côte d’Ivoire under the false pretense of learning hairdressing. Police spokesperson Bright Edafe reported that the suspect deceived the victim, leading her to believe she would receive training in Côte d’Ivoire.

Upon arrival, she was allegedly forced into prostitution and handed over to a woman identified only as Madam Purity. Following a petition regarding the case, police operatives arrested the suspect, who confessed to trafficking the victim and another woman in her twenties.

The 25-year-old victim has since been rescued and returned to Nigeria, where she has been reunited with her family and is receiving medical attention. The police are continuing efforts to secure the safe return of the second victim and apprehend other members of the trafficking syndicate.

Edafe urged the public to report any suspicious recruitment schemes or trafficking activities.
