Delta Residents Demand BEDC Action on Power Outages

Residents of Fear God Street, Bonsaac, Asaba, Delta State, have expressed frustration over prolonged power outages, accusing the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) and their community electricity committee of neglect. Despite contributing millions of naira for transformer repairs, they remain without power months after the last repair attempt.

The chairman of the Bonsaac 1 Transformer Committee, Mr. Michael Morah, refuted claims of misappropriation, stating that contributions for a new transformer were directed to the community's bank account. The transformer failed on July 25 after previous repairs.

Morah challenged anyone alleging personal payments to him to provide evidence. Amidst complaints regarding fund management, a panel was formed to investigate Morah, who has led the committee for over a decade.

Mr. Okolo Gred, the panel chairman, indicated that the report is pending community deliberation due to Morah's failure to convene a meeting. Residents are calling for new leadership within the committee.
