Dembo Proposes New North-North Geopolitical Zone in Nigeria

Alhaji Umaru Dembo, a former Minister of State for Petroleum and governorship candidate in Kaduna State, has proposed the establishment of an additional geopolitical zone in Northern Nigeria, referred to as the North-North zone. This proposed zone would encompass Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.

In a letter dated July 23, 2026, addressed to the National Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Dembo argues that the current three geopolitical zones in the North do not adequately represent the region's population, landmass, and development needs. He believes the creation of the North-North zone would enhance equity, balanced representation, and accelerate development.

Dembo emphasizes the historical, cultural, and economic ties among the three states and requests the ACF's support to advocate for this proposal to the National Assembly and the Presidency, highlighting its importance for peace, unity, fairness, and progress in the region.
