Cross River State Launches Electric Vehicles for Civil Servants

On Democracy Day, the Cross River State Government, led by Governor Bassey Otu, unveiled 36 electric vehicles designated for senior civil servants. This initiative marks the beginning of a larger program aimed at introducing 100 electric vehicles and 100 electric tricycles to enhance clean transport across the state.

Governor Otu stated that the decision to adopt electric vehicles was influenced by rising transport costs and the need for sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels. The electric vehicles are expected to significantly reduce operational costs, allowing beneficiaries to save nearly 75% on fuel expenses.

The initiative also includes plans to develop charging infrastructure to support the adoption of electric vehicles throughout Cross River State. Orok Okon, the head of service, described the initiative as a landmark intervention for the civil service, aiming to restore pride in the bureaucracy and improve public service delivery.
