Zulum Reflects on Seven Years as Borno Governor

On Nigeria's Democracy Day, June 12, 2023, Prof. Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, delivered a statewide broadcast reflecting on his seven-year journey in office.

He emphasized the significant gains in security, reconstruction, education, and healthcare, pledging to ensure lasting peace and prosperity in the state. Zulum noted the challenges posed by insecurity but expressed optimism about the military operations and government interventions that have gradually restored stability in the region ravaged by insurgency.

He acknowledged the recent rescue of 434 women and children from Boko Haram captivity and reiterated his commitment to securing the release of those still held captive, including the Chibok girls. Zulum praised the support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and highlighted his administration's investments in education, including the establishment of 104 mega schools and two new nursing colleges.

He also mentioned healthcare reforms, including the construction of eight new general hospitals and a significant salary increase for health workers.
