Peller: Democracy at Risk Without Strong Opposition Voice

During a public lecture titled "The Importance of Community Development in Islam," held in Iseyin, Shina Peller, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, warned that democracy in Nigeria is at risk without a credible opposition voice. Peller criticized the alleged attempts to stifle opposition parties, particularly the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which he claims has led to mass defections among top politicians.

He asserted that the survival of democracy hinges on the existence of a strong opposition, stating that without it, the democratic process is doomed. Peller also remarked on the evolving political landscape, where individuals aspire to write their own narratives, and he cautioned against judicial overreach in political matters, referencing the Quran's admonition against judgment.
