Lagos Assembly Calls Two-Week Reconciliation on Demolitions

The Lagos State House of Assembly has initiated a two-week reconciliation process concerning recent demolitions in the Makoko community. Speaker Mudashiru Obasa led the assembly's reaffirmation to halt any further demolition actions.

A special committee, comprising ten members including women, youth, students, and traditional leaders, has been established to engage with community stakeholders. The committee's objective is to address the needs of residents and ensure a comprehensive resolution within the two-week timeframe.

The assembly has also recommended that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Olajide Babatunde establish a 250-meter setback from the Third Mainland Bridge, with an additional 250-meter buffer beyond the power line corridor, prohibiting development in these areas.

Local council chairman Bayo Adefuy expressed satisfaction with the resolution reached and emphasized the importance of distributing relief materials to affected residents. The assembly has warned community leaders against pursuing personal interests that could undermine the reconciliation process.
