Ghana Police Warn: Denying Spouse Sex Could Lead to Jail Time

The Ghana Police Service has issued a strong warning to married couples, stating that denying a spouse sexual relations could result in criminal prosecution and imprisonment under the Domestic Violence Act. The law, Act 732 of 2007, classifies withholding sex from a spouse as emotional abuse, punishable by up to two years in prison.

The warning emphasizes that the law is not gender-biased and applies to both men and women. Examples of emotional abuse within marriage include actions causing emotional distress, humiliation, or stress to a partner.

The police urge individuals experiencing emotional abuse in marriage to seek help and report such incidents to the authorities.
