DHQ Reiterates Military Neutrality for 2027 Elections

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria's (AFN) dedication to professionalism, neutrality, and adherence to constitutional provisions in preparation for the 2027 General Elections. This commitment was articulated during a seminar held on Thursday in Abuja, themed “The Role of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the 2027 General Elections.” Senior military officers, security agency representatives, and election management officials participated in discussions focused on military roles in election support operations.

Major General Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, stated the seminar aimed to enhance professionalism among Armed Forces personnel for election-related security duties. Chief of Defence Staff General Olufemi Oluyede, represented by Rear Admiral Abolade Ogunleye, highlighted the necessity for troops to remain apolitical and adhere to the Code of Conduct during Operation SAFE CONDUCT 2027.

He noted past successes in maintaining professionalism during previous elections and emphasized that success would be measured by upholding constitutional principles and respect for human rights.
