Defence Minister Outlines Security Plans for 2027 Elections

On Tuesday, during the Blueprint Newspaper’s public annual lecture in Abuja, General Christopher Musa (retd), Nigeria's Minister of Defence, stated that the Ministry would collaborate closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser, Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Defence Intelligence Agency, INEC, and other relevant institutions in preparation for the 2027 elections. He emphasized the importance of inter-agency planning, intelligence collaboration, and operational readiness, while ensuring that military support remains non-partisan.

Musa clarified that the Armed Forces are constitutionally mandated to defend Nigeria's sovereignty and provide Military Aid to Civil Authority without political bias. He warned of emerging security threats to the elections, such as cyber interference and misinformation, stressing that election security must encompass more than just protecting polling stations.

Musa asserted that the integrity of elections is fundamentally linked to the protection of democratic legitimacy.
