Nigerian Forces Kill Senior ISIS Leader Abu Bilal Al Minuki

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced the death of Abu Bilal Al Minuki, a senior leader of ISIS, during a joint counter-terrorism operation conducted by Nigerian forces and U.S. support. Maj Gen Samaila Uba described Al Minuki as a critical strategist within the ISIS global network, providing guidance to entities outside Nigeria and involved in weapon manufacturing and drone development.

Al Minuki, recognized as a prominent leader within Boko Haram, had pledged allegiance to ISIS in 2015 and was linked to the 2018 Dapchi kidnapping of 100 schoolgirls. His rise in the global jihadist hierarchy was noted, with intelligence assessments indicating his elevation to a significant position within ISIS.

The operation was characterized as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Nigeria and the broader Sahel region, particularly in the Lake Chad Basin, where Al Minuki coordinated operations across various regions.
