DHQ Denies Civilian Casualties from Zamfara Airstrike

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) issued a statement on Tuesday, dismissing allegations of civilian casualties resulting from a military airstrike conducted on May 10 in Zamfara State. The airstrike, carried out by troops from the Joint Task Force in the North West, targeted a location identified through credible intelligence as a gathering point for terrorist leaders planning attacks against communities in the region.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, stated that the operation aimed to neutralize armed non-state actors threatening civilian populations. The DHQ maintained that casualty figures circulating in the media were misleading and unverified, urging the public to exercise caution regarding unofficial reports.

The military reiterated its commitment to conducting operations in compliance with international humanitarian law, emphasizing that measures are taken to prevent civilian harm during such operations.
