Dickson Receives Democracy Award, Urges Stronger ECOWAS

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), was awarded the Pillar of Nigeria Democracy Award during the Diplomatic Digest 6th Anniversary Lecture. The event, attended by diplomats from Ghana and Burkina Faso, recognized Dickson's contributions to democracy in Nigeria since its transition from military rule in 1998.

In his speech, Dickson dedicated the award to NDC leaders and all Nigerians, emphasizing the need for commitment to democratic governance, rule of law, and independent institutions. He warned against the dangers of undermining democracy by civilians in power and criticized the current APC government's foreign policy, stating that it has weakened ECOWAS.

Dickson called for the Nigerian President to ensure the protection of democratic spaces and institutions, reflecting on the troubling trend of diminishing democratic values in the ECOWAS region.
