Diezani Alison-Madueke's London Trial Faces New Allegations

The trial of former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, at Southwark Crown Court in London has taken a dramatic turn as her defense team, led by Jonathan Laidlaw KC, alleges missing evidence and selective prosecution. Laidlaw criticized the credibility of the prosecution's case, questioning the integrity of the evidence and the handling of the investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He pointed out that key documents supporting Alison-Madueke's defense have disappeared, including records related to reimbursements and official duties. Laidlaw also noted that several wealthy oil businessmen, who allegedly paid bribes, continue to live freely without prosecution.

The prosecution, led by Alexandra Healy KC, focused on a $1 million payment linked to businessman Benedict Peter, arguing it was disguised as a transaction involving a defunct furniture company. The court proceedings are closely monitored as they address serious allegations of corruption involving a former Nigerian public official.
