INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan Denies X Account Allegations

Allegations have emerged connecting Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to a pro-APC X account that shared partisan content in support of Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections. The account, previously known as "joashamupitan," was later renamed "sundayvibe00" and was reported to have made posts celebrating APC victories.

Public outcry followed the discovery, prompting investigations into the account's ownership. INEC has firmly denied the claims, stating that Amupitan does not own or operate the account and has never engaged in partisan commentary.

The commission described the account as a case of impersonation and referred the matter to security agencies. Despite the allegations, no forensic report has been released to independently verify the claims.

The account was created in September 2022, and tools used to analyze the account suggested a connection to Amupitan, although INEC maintains that he is not associated with any political activities in a private or public capacity.
