Plateau State Mobilizes Medical Supplies Against Diphtheria

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has directed the immediate mobilization of drugs and medical supplies to health facilities addressing the diphtheria outbreak in the state. Kim Jerry Bot, the Director-General of the Plateau State Drug and Medical Commodity Management Agency (PSDMA), announced this on Monday, stating that interventions are already in progress at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and Plateau State Specialist Hospital (PSSH).

The state government acted swiftly following reports of the outbreak, which has resulted in over 23 deaths in Wase, Jos South, Bassa, and Jos North. Dr Nicholas Baamlong, the state’s Commissioner for Health, is leading the response efforts.

The directive from Governor Mutfwang came shortly after the closure of all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state, as announced by Joyce Ramnap, the Commissioner for Information and Communications. Bot praised Governor Mutfwang for his prompt intervention in addressing this health emergency.
