Diri Condoles with Family of Late Prof. Turner Isoun

On Friday, Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Prof. Turner Isoun, a former Minister of Science and Technology, who passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 87.

Diri extended condolences to Isoun's wife, children, extended family, and the Odi community, emphasizing the loss felt by the Ijaw nation and Nigeria. He described his relationship with Isoun as akin to that of a father and son, recalling a warm visit the previous year.

Diri acknowledged Isoun's significant contributions to various causes, including resource control, the creation of Bayelsa State, and environmental protection. He recounted an encounter regarding the killing of Ken Saro-Wiwa, where Isoun promptly supported their stance against the Federal Government.

Diri praised Isoun for mentoring many young people on environmental protection. Diseye Isoun, responding on behalf of the family, expressed gratitude for the support and solidarity received since their father's passing.
