Oshoala Calls for Support After Falcons' Loss to Malawi

Asisat Oshoala, a forward for the Super Falcons, has called on Nigerians to support the team after their unexpected 3-2 loss to Malawi in their opening match of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. The match took place in Rabat, where Malawi, making their tournament debut, defeated the ten-time champions Nigeria.

The Chawinga sisters, Temwa and Tabitha, played pivotal roles in Malawi's victory, with Temwa scoring twice. Oshoala, who started the match on the bench and came on in the 83rd minute, could not influence the game significantly as Nigeria attempted a late comeback.

She emphasized the importance of support from fans, noting that a World Cup qualification is at stake. Currently, the Super Falcons sit third in Group C without any points and must win their upcoming matches against Zambia and Egypt to advance to the quarter-finals and secure a place in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
