Diri Increases Scrabble Prize Money and Supports Schools

On Sunday night during the closing ceremony of the sixth edition of the Diri National Scrabble Classic in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri announced a significant increase in the competition's prize money. The winner of the Masters category in the next edition will receive N5 million, and the total prize money will rise from N20 million to N40 million.

Diri emphasized the importance of Scrabble in developing students' mental abilities and directed the Commissioners for Sports and Education to introduce the game into secondary schools. He shared his personal experience with Scrabble, noting its role in enhancing his vocabulary and strategic thinking.

Diri also committed to facilitating the introduction of Scrabble at the 2028 National Sports Festival, which Bayelsa will host, and pledged support for Nigerian players participating in the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Kenya. Engr. Bright Idahosa, President of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation, expressed gratitude for Diri's support, highlighting Nigeria's prominence in the global Scrabble community.
