Jimoh Wins 6th Gov. Diri Scrabble Classic, N2m Prize

Abdulmumin Jimoh emerged as the Masters champion at the 6th Governor Douye Diri National Scrabble Classic, held in Yenagoa, and received a trophy along with a cash prize of N2 million. In the Intermediate category, Felix Igolukumo won a trophy and N1.2 million, while Godwin Angoye claimed first place in the Open category, earning a trophy and N700,000.

Oladokun Esan won the Veterans category for the third time, receiving a trophy and N900,000, and Godwin Joseph topped the Students category, taking home a trophy and N150,000. During the closing ceremony, Governor Douye Diri announced a special gift of N1 million each to two young players: seven-year-old Abdulsalam Yusuf from Kwara State and nine-year-old Elizabeth Fun-ere from Bayelsa.

Looking ahead, the governor revealed plans to double the tournament's prize money from N20 million to N40 million for the next edition, with the Masters winner set to receive N5 million. He also directed state officials to introduce Scrabble into secondary schools to enhance students' mental development.
