NDLEA's Marwa Urges Dismantling of Drug Cartels' Finances

Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), called on agency investigators and prosecutors to intensify efforts in dismantling the financial structures of drug cartels. Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at an Advanced Capacity Building Programme on Financial Investigations, Marwa stated that the fight against drug trafficking must evolve beyond mere arrests and seizures.

He highlighted the importance of tracing, seizing, and recovering proceeds from narcotics trafficking, warning that without targeting financiers and recovering illicit wealth, the problem would persist. Marwa noted the increasing exploitation of technology and complex corporate structures by criminal organizations to hide illicit wealth.

He urged the NDLEA to enhance its capacity to analyze complex transactions and collaborate with other law enforcement agencies. The program included representatives from various agencies, and Justice John Terhemba Tsoho commended Marwa for the NDLEA's progress under his leadership.
