NDLEA's Marwa Urges Resilience in Drug War Efforts

On August 13, 2026, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), addressed officers during the 12th Commendations and Awards ceremony held at the Agency's national headquarters in Abuja. He emphasized the need for resilience in the fight against drug trafficking, describing it as a generational responsibility.

Marwa honored 274 personnel for their outstanding performance, alongside 18 best-performing commands, and recognized 19 NGOs and media organizations for their commitment to drug abuse advocacy in Nigeria. He stated that the war against illicit drugs is ongoing and cannot be won by enforcement alone, highlighting the crucial roles of NGOs and journalists.

Marwa also mentioned significant operations, including the dismantling of the Amadi Simon drug cartel and the disruption of a tramadol cartel exploiting the Togo–Benin Republic–Nigeria corridor, which has contributed to opioid abuse among Nigerian youth.
