Lawyer Critiques Peter Obi's Remarks on Abacha's Legacy

He emphasized that Abacha's regime represented one of the darkest periods in Nigeria's political history, characterized by repression, human rights violations, and the silencing of opposition voices. Oladel defended the legacy of those who fought against military rule, including members of Nadeco, who sacrificed their safety and comfort to restore democracy following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

He expressed concern over the growing trend of making such statements and urged public figures to exercise restraint. Oladel called for a commitment to democratic ideals and warned against glorifying authoritarian rule, which undermines the progress made in Nigeria's democracy.
