NARD to Suspend Strike After Meeting with Presidency

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) is poised to suspend its planned strike following a three-hour meeting with Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday evening. NARD President, Dr Muhammad Suleiman, announced that the Federal Government and the association reached agreements on specific timelines to resolve outstanding salary, promotion, and allowance disputes.

The meeting included key officials such as the Ministers of Labour, Health, and Finance, and the Director-General of the Budget Office. While Suleiman did not formally announce the strike's suspension pending consultation with the National Executive Council, he confirmed that firm commitments were made regarding salary payments for house officers and other issues.

The Ministry of Health will also enhance security for health workers in response to rising violence against them, with directives to be issued for public education on this matter.
