NARD to Suspend Strike After Talks with Gbajabiamila

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) is set to suspend its planned strike following a three-hour meeting with Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday. NARD President, Dr Muhammad Suleiman, announced that the Federal Government and the association agreed on specific timelines to resolve outstanding salary, promotion, and allowance disputes.

The meeting included key officials such as the Ministers of Labour, Health, and Finance, and the Director-General of the Budget Office. Suleiman indicated that firm commitments were made regarding salary payments for house officers, ensuring they receive their salaries before the 10th of each month.

Additionally, the Ministries of Labour and Health were tasked with expediting the completion of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The association also addressed the issue of violence against health workers, with the Ministry of Health agreeing to enhance security measures in hospitals.
