Gbajabiamila Meets Doctors to Avert Planned Strike

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff, met with resident doctors at the Presidential Villa, led by Dr. Muhammad Suleiman, President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). This meeting was prompted by a threat from the doctors to initiate an indefinite nationwide strike starting August 10 due to unresolved salary arrears and welfare-related concerns.

Following discussions, Dr. Suleiman reported that commitments were secured on nearly all issues raised, with agreed timelines for resolving salary, promotion, and allowance matters. He emphasized that while significant progress was made, he could not officially call off the strike without consulting NARD’s National Executive Council.

The meeting also addressed concerns about violence against health workers, with the Ministry of Health agreeing to enhance security measures and public education to protect health workers.
