Nigeria's Domestic Gas Sales Surge 30% by 2025

Nigeria's domestic gas market recorded a significant increase in sales, rising by 30% from January 2022 to January 2025. This growth is attributed to reforms initiated by the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021 and a recent executive order from President Bola Tinubu.

The analysis by Tope Adebayo LP indicates that these reforms have improved regulatory clarity and fiscal conditions, attracting investor confidence across the gas value chain. Domestic gas sales rose from 49.3 billion standard cubic feet (bscf) in January 2022 to 64.2 bscf in January 2025.

The PIA represents a comprehensive reform of Nigeria's petroleum sector, establishing a stronger foundation for domestic gas development. The report emphasizes the need for sustained investment in infrastructure and regulatory execution to fully realize the market's potential, addressing existing challenges such as underinvestment and weak infrastructure.
