Tiwa Savage Credits Don Jazzy for Afrobeat Transition

Tiwa Savage, an award-winning singer, revealed that Don Jazzy played a significant role in her transition from R&B to Afrobeat after she relocated to Nigeria in 2012. Previously, she worked abroad as a backup singer and intern for artists like George Michael and Mary J.

Blige. Upon returning to Nigeria, she found the local music industry evolving and gaining global recognition.

Signing with Mavin Records, she began to experiment with sounds outside her comfort zone. In an interview with TVC, Savage explained that Don Jazzy helped change her mindset regarding music creation, making her believe that her talent was not limited.

She expressed that while the transition from R&B to street sound was difficult, it ultimately transformed her into one of the biggest music stars in Nigeria. Tiwa Savage does not regret her decision to move back to Nigeria and embrace Afrobeat.
