PDP Chieftain Defends Tinubu Against Opposition Blame

Otunba Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), asserted that President Bola Tinubu should not be held responsible for the difficulties confronting opposition parties in Nigeria. In a statement titled "Democracy is Not a Scapegoat," made available to journalists in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Showunmi argued that the problems faced by opposition parties stem from their inability to present coherent alternatives and not from Tinubu's presidency.

He emphasized that democracy is not weakened by the opposition's struggles but rather by leaders who refuse to introspect. Showunmi criticized the tendency of opposition leaders to resort to alarmist rhetoric and claimed victimhood instead of focusing on improving their political strategies.

He noted that the political landscape requires resilient organizations capable of competing credibly. Furthermore, he highlighted that public figures must be accountable for their actions and cannot evade scrutiny simply due to political affiliations.
