Umahi Directs Contractors to Avoid Demolishing Buildings

Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, issued a warning to contractors of the Calabar-Abuja Superhighway on September 27, 2026, advising them against demolishing buildings along the project alignment until the federal government completes a review and potential realignment. During an inspection of phase two of the project in Ado, Benue State, he reviewed progress and urged contractors to expedite construction activities.

The second section of the project spans 173 kilometers and is valued at N683 billion, while Section One is valued at N454 billion. Umahi noted that the contractor has opened the first eight kilometers of Section Two and is addressing engineering challenges at the Ado Bridge.

He mandated that no buildings within the alignment should be disturbed and instructed that sharp curves along the highway be reinforced. The project operates under an EPC Plus Finance arrangement, necessitating careful management of resources without additional costs to the Federal Government.
