Umahi Orders No Demolition on Calabar-Abuja Superhighway

Senator Engr. David Umahi, the Minister of Works, directed contractors on the Calabar-Abuja Superhighway to refrain from demolishing any buildings along the project alignment until the Federal Government completes a review and potential realignment of the route. This directive was issued during his inspection of Phase Two of the project in Ado, Benue State, where he assessed progress and urged contractors to accelerate construction activities.

The second section of the project spans 173 kilometres and is valued at ₦683 billion, while Section One is valued at ₦454 billion. Umahi noted that the contractor has opened the first eight kilometres and is addressing engineering challenges at the Ado Bridge.

He emphasized that no buildings should be touched, even if within the alignment, until a review is conducted. Additionally, he instructed that sharp curves along the highway be strengthened and highlighted the importance of managing project resources under the EPC Plus Finance arrangement.
