Umahi Directs Contractors to Accelerate Superhighway Work

David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has instructed contractors working on the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-Abuja Superhighway to open multiple work fronts and intensify construction activities. This directive was issued during a project inspection, emphasizing the need for contractors to deploy adequate manpower and resources to expedite progress while safeguarding existing buildings along the route.

Umahi highlighted the necessity of overcoming engineering challenges, such as rivers and swampy areas, and mandated that no buildings should be demolished without a thorough technical assessment. He stated that the ministry would make necessary adjustments to the highway alignment to avoid additional costs to the Federal Government.

The minister also urged contractors to focus on difficult sections, particularly around river crossings, to ensure temporary motorability while permanent works continue. Chioma Nweze, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagements, praised the project for generating employment and enhancing connectivity across regions.
