Akpabio Warns AMAC Chairman Against Arbitrary Road Naming

On Wednesday, Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, issued a strong warning to Christoph Maikalangu, the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, regarding the naming of roads constructed with federal government funds. Akpabio cautioned that the council chairman should not assign names to these roads without obtaining proper approval, emphasizing the importance of following due process.

This warning aligns with a previous statement made by Nyesom Wike, the state minister for the Federal Capital Territory, who clarified that area council chairmen do not have the authority to name projects financed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration. Akpabio reiterated that public infrastructure funded by the federal government should not be named arbitrarily, particularly by local government officials.

His remarks were made during the inauguration of a newly completed road in the Gaduwa District of Abuja, part of the activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
