Renewed Attacks by Herders Leave Dozens Dead in Benue

On Thursday, a violent attack by suspected armed herders on the Tyungu Jam Mbaav community in the Mbadura Council Ward of Kwand Local Government Area, Benue State, resulted in at least 12 fatalities and numerous injuries. Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia condemned the killings, describing the attack as barbaric and senseless.

In a statement signed by his Technical Adviser on Media and Publicity, Solomon Iorpev, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the victims' families. He emphasized that every life matters and assured that the state administration would leave no stone unturned to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Governor Alia acknowledged the recent deployment of 400 security personnel to the area, noting the urgent need for increased security presence. The attack caused panic among residents, forcing men, women, children, and the elderly to flee in different directions for safety.

The community is in dire need of urgent security intervention.
