Herdsmen Attack in Benue: 12 Killed, Governor Responds

In a tragic incident in Benue State, Rev. Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia confirmed that twelve individuals were killed during an attack by armed herdsmen in the Turan Kwand Local Government Area. The violence occurred late Thursday into Friday morning, with reports indicating that sixteen bodies were recovered, and six others sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The attack coincided with a visit from Lt. Gen. Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, who assured Governor Alia of the military's commitment to restoring peace. In response to the violence, 400 security personnel have been deployed to the area.

The KWUPO group, represented by Comr. Simon Aloko Nachi, expressed outrage over the killings, accusing security forces of failing to protect the community despite their proximity.

Governor Alia condemned the attack as barbaric and pledged to pursue justice while urging the community to cooperate with security agencies to address the ongoing insecurity in the region.
