Lagos Activates Response to DRC Ebola Outbreak - Strengthening Preparedness!

Lagos State activated its Incident Management Structure and tightened screening at the airport in response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) held an emergency meeting at Mainland Hospital Yaba following reports of 28 suspected cases and 15 deaths, including four health workers in the DRC.

The activation of IMS is a proactive step to strengthen prevention and preparedness in Lagos, a major gateway with three entry points. The state is largely ready with isolation centers in place.

The move aims to enhance infection prevention, surveillance, contact tracing, case management, laboratory capacity, evacuation, risk communication, budgeting, and logistics.
