Nigeria Strengthens Border Control Amid New Ebola Cases in DRC

The Federal Government of Nigeria has heightened border control measures due to new Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Director of Port Health Services, Akpan Nse, announced increased health surveillance at entry points to prevent the virus's importation.

Nigeria remains vulnerable due to high international travel volume. The DRC confirmed an Ebola outbreak with 28 suspected cases and 16 deaths.

Nigeria is reinforcing screening procedures at airports, seaports, and land borders, deploying additional personnel and thermal scanners. The World Health Organization is supporting these efforts.

This move comes after Nigeria's last battle with Ebola in 2022. The government aims to prevent the spread of the Ebola Zaire strain into the country.
